I have read/heard some people say that they find a spiritual component to practicing b d s m. I am interested in the various ways this is experienced. Does it relate the the religious/spiritual background you come from, or is it totally different?
For starters, when I hear most Christians talk about their relationship with God, it sounds to me like they are describing a b d s m relationship -- themselves as the sub, God as the dom. There is a Christian hymn which actually contains the line: "Perfect submission, perfect delight/ Visions of rapture now burst on my sight." What a description of b d s m, from the sub's point of view! Where else but in b d s m would anyone find submission to be delightful? Where else but in b d s m would people find their greatest joy in learning to be obedient? Yes, it looks to me as if Christianity is a matter of taking the ideas of b d s m out of the bedroom and applying them to spirituality.
Which makes it all the more confusing to me that Christian pastors and theologians mostly would call b d s m a perversion of s----lity. Logically, I would have thought Christians would be the ones most likely to "get it" about b d s m, since it is so close to the way they relate to their God.

What I find missing, though, is the other side. Yes, Christians speak of obedience to God, of submitting to God's will; but they also see God as basically loving. They say that God has their best interests at heart, and the sufferings they experience are instruction and/or discipline for their ultimate improvement. Whereas the way most doms write here, they do not seem to have that. They want to be obeyed and worshipped by the sub, but without that love and concern for the sub's ultimate good in the long run. Unless there is something I am missing here?
